Day 1

Today I woke up and it dawned on me.. today is day 1 of this sugar free challenge.  Ugg.  For the first time in my life I woke up hungry for chocolate, sweet tea, waffles with syrup, and a hot cup of coffee with italian creme.  Man, what a bummer.  I settled for Heart to Heart cereal, and a black coffee.  I could have added milk, but that's just as bland.  Unfortunately I chose to start before I stocked up my fridge and pantry- bad idea #1, unless of course you count doing this diet- then that makes bad idea #2.  Anyhoo..  Day 1 felt more like Day 21.  This can't be good.

I would write more, but I'm too grumpy to think.  I miss my sweet tea.

No More Sugar...

Piece of cake... Not! Okay, here's the deal, err plan. I'm teetering on the idea of doing a sugar fast for (gasp) 21 days!! Holy sh*t.. What am I thinking? I'm sure I'll be kicking myself come Monday, but as I've stated before- I love a challenge, and this could very well be life or death.

So far I've read day 3-6 are the hardest. I will be tired, cranky, etc. If I survive the first 6 days it's supposed to get easier. The energy levels start to go up, but the cravings probably won't subside until around day 17. Oh joy- this is sounding better and better- want to join me?

Why am I doing this? I have an addiction, and it's not cocaine. Sugar gets me through the day. I'm an emotional person and an emotional eater. I always turn to sugar. It is my friend- my best friend. I also want to lose 10 more pounds. I work out on a regular basis, and it makes me mad knowing it takes 10 minutes to burn the 2 chocolates I had before I got on the treadmill this morning.

What do I hope to learn from this experience? I hope to come out of this with a little self control for one thing. How awesome would it be to have ice-cream in the freezer for more than 24 hours!?! I also hope to learn to reach for more nutritional foods when I'm hungry.

I'm going to need a few things from anyone reading this as well.. SUPPORT! This might very well be the hardest thing I've ever done. Luckily it's not forever.. Updates to follow.

Bad Day for 80's Icons

Man o man, what a sad day this has turned out to be. First the gorgeous, stop you in your tracks, Farrah Fawcett passes away from cancer, then out of no where.. the king of pop-Michael Jackson dies of an apparent heart attack!! I didn't know these people personally, (obviously) but I grew up seeing these people all over tv and radio- and let me tell you, I could dance to MJ's hits with the best of them. And I think I've finally pin-pointed where my Mom got that extremely "80's" hair do from. (don't worry, she doesn't have it any more).

Regardless of what you think of about these icons, they are people first- and they will be missed.

reality tv is hitting an all time low.

Why I am wasting my time writing about this is beyond me, but what in the world is going on with T.L.C. airing a divorce announcement? Seriously? The show must go on, gotta tape those family memories- good or bad I guess. LAME!  What's worse is that I found myself glued to the t.v. watching along with the rest of America.  They got me... I just hope those beautiful children don't end up crazy like their mom and douchie like their dad. *sigh*

I love Avocados

I love them so much I think I could eat them every day and never get tired of them.  "So what, who cares..."

But really, they are yummy, and so is our new exterior paint color!  It turned out better than I imagined, and I think Jim is really happy with it too.  Let me know whatcha think!

On a side note:

Did You Know?

  • An avocado is a fruit and not a vegetable! It is actually a member of the berry family.

  • In the past, the avocado had a well-entrenched reputation for inducing sexual prowess and wasn't purchased or consumed by any person wishing to protect their image from slanderous assault. Growers had to sponsor a public relations campaign to dispel the ill-founded reputation before avocados became popular.

  • Avocados got their name from the Spanish explorers. They couldn't pronounce the Aztec word for the fruit, know as ahuacatl, "testicle," because of its shape. The Spanish called the aguacate, leading to the guacamole we know today.

  • Avocados must reach full maturity before they are picked, however, they do not soften on the tree. The tree can actually be used as a storage unit by keeping the fruit on the tree for many months after maturing.--- very interesting!

No Doubt

We got out for a rare date night and saw No Doubt perform.  Great show- I'm glad we ended up going.  We went with a few friends, and that made it extra enjoyable.  I must say I was really taken back by Gwen's abs.  My goodness, how is it humanly possible to look that good? (please note I am enjoying a mint chocolate chip milkshake as I type this.)  Damn her and her perfect abs.  At least I have some sort of motivation for tomorrow's work-out. *sigh*

Pardon me, Do you have any Grey Poupon?

Why yes we do... and it's splattered all over our new home.  Obviously I am not a fan. It's not exactly the look we were going for- it's way too out there, even for us and too bright for such a long house.  It's amazing how different a color can look once you put it on something as big as a house.

So it's back to square one on exterior paint colors.  Bummer.  This time around we're going with a "safe" green called Arugula.  We haven't decided what color(s) to use on the garage and front door, but I think we'll have a better idea once the house is all painted and we can pull it all together.  Hopefully the rain will hold off tomorrow so we can get the mustard covered up before the neighbors have a heart attack.

What a trooper

Oliver had his 15 month check-up this morning (2 weeks early).  This involved getting one shot because I opted to have them only give Oliver one shot at a time.  It doesn't seem safe to inject these tiny little kids with 3 or 4 drugs at a time, especially when you consider all the toxins in the vaccines.  Talk about system overload.  So I urge all you moms and dads out there to talk to you child's doctor about your options, and if you find you have a doctor not willing to work with you- it's probably time to find a new doctor.  We are after all talking about our children here.

If money is an issue (those co-payments can really add up), ask your doctor to check to see if your insurance requires a co-payment if you DO NOT see a doctor.  After all, nurses do the dirty work.  I have BCBS, and if Oliver only sees a nurse, there is no co-payment! SCORE!!  There are some vaccines that are okay to take together, but if you take them separately, you may have to wait a month before getting another.   For example, if you get the MMr vaccine, you have to wait at least 4 weeks before getting the chicken pox vaccine.  Anyway, I'm not a doctor- just a concerned mommy... So do your research and have a chat with your pediatrician.

Anyway, on to more exciting things.. like Oliver's weight and height!  Oliver is growing like a weed.  His chart looks fabulous and he's moving right up the scale.  He's currently 29 3/4 inches in height.  That's 22nd percentile.  For weight he's coming in at 21 pounds 14 ounces- 20th percentile!  And last but not least, his head circumference is 18.6- 60th percentile.. This is what makes going to the pediatrician's office so exciting.  It's so fun to see how quickly Oliver is changing and growing.  It reminds me of all those doctor's appointments back when I was pregnant and hearing how fast his heart was beating or how big he'd gotten that week on the ultrasound.  Isn't life just precious?

Oh, and Oliver is officially a big boy now.  We finally turned his car seat around- no more baby Oliver.
