Coughs, Sniffles, and Allergies.. Oh My!

Ugg........

For the last 2 weeks Oliver has been struggling with his allergies. I took him in 2 weeks ago for his flu shot and to have his congestion looked at to make sure he wasn't getting sick, and the Dr. confirmed it was allergies. Then we went to the beach last week, and it got worse. We upped his allergy medicine (Zertec), but it didn't help at all. He is fine during the day, but at night he coughs and coughs. So today I took him in again to make sure the fluid hadn't gotten down to his chest and to make sure all this congestion hadn't caused another ear infection. Luckily, nothing had changed, it was all still in his throat, no ear infection, and we're still just dealing with allergies. I'm super relieved his isn't sick or contagious, but he's still feeling yucky because he can't breathe. So the great Dr. Lopez gave us samples for 4 different meds to try and see which works the best for him. I really hope it helps- I hate seeing him feeling yucky (itchy eyes and a runny nose is the worst), and I'm tired of getting the stink eye from strangers who think I'm taking my son out in public sick.

My Own Personal Doorman

Well, life just got a little more challenging in the Hickman household. Oliver is now opening doors. He decided to learn this new skill while at the beach, and since we've been home he has been opening every door he can get his hands on. Luckily a while back I bought these door locks because they were on sale, and I knew this day was inevitably going to come. Unfortunately it only took a day for Oliver to figure them out. The child loves a challenge. Now I have to come up with a new door lock and out smart this little guy..

Teacup Piggies

Have you heard about the latest pet craze? Teacup Pigs! OMG, how freaking cute are they? Pigs are highly intelligent and bond well with humans. (reason enough not to eat them). In England people are paying about $1,100 for a pair. I'd take one in a minute, but I know Rufus would be pissed.

Here are a few facts about pigs:

Pigs live on average from 9-15 years
A full grown pig can drink up to 14 gallons of water a day
Pigs are more trainable than cats and dogs
Pigs rank #4 in animal intelligence behind chimps, dolphins, and elephants
Pigs have such a well developed sense of smell that they can easily find things underground
Pigs have no sweat glands, which is why they roll in mud to stay cool
Some pigs have straight tails and others have curly tails
Pigs are very social animals. They form close bonds with each other and other species
Pigs enjoy close contact
A pig can run a 7 minute mile- that's faster than me!

Yes, Please

Ah, politeness is making a come back.

On Friday, Oliver and I were walking down the hall at Oliver's school hand in hand, and a boy who was probably 7 or 8 saw us coming and ran over to get the door for us. How sweet and polite is that?! When we got to the door Oliver stopped and I told the boy thank you. Oliver had a big smile on his face and quietly said "hi". It was incredibly cute.

On an even cuter note, Saturday Oliver spent the day with Mimi while Dad, Jim, and I worked at the house. When I got home Mom told me that Oliver said "Thank you" (clear as day) when she gave him his milk. I was floored and was dying to hear him say it to me. So Sunday Morning I gave him a waffle, and lo and behold a "thank you" came right out of his sweet little mouth. I got all excited, clapped and said "YOU"RE WELCOME BUDDY!" I know he thinks I'm crazy, but I don't care. I have the cutest and most polite little guy in the whole world.
